"There's No Place Like Home"!! New Orleans,La. (Part I)

My husband and I went home for a vacation and to take care of some business. Oh my goodness what can I say!! "There is truly no place like home"!
Upon arrival we were greeted at the airport with "Mardi Gras" beads, and the party begins....... We settled in our rooms and we immediately went to Bourbon Street. Couldn't wait to get to the food!!! I miss Louisiana cuisine. Its the best!
The first night we went to "Daisy Dukes" and had gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice and a buttery biscuit with honey. For appetizers we had fried green tomatoes with a yummy roumalade sauce.
There is so much to tell and show you, so I decided to break this into three or four segments. We stayed at the Wyndham Hotel, which use to be part of the Whitney Bank on Poydras St.  It is a very classy, upscale hotel with so much history. The bank was divided into a hotel, and a restaurant. The architect is beautiful. It has seven floors and is literally located about two or three blocks down from the new Mercedes Super dome.
The city have so much culture and history. I love the fact that Mardi Gras is celebrated at least two weeks leading up to "Fat Tuesday". So we were able to engage in some of the festivities.
Yeah "Saints" arrival at the airport.

The "Mardi Gras decor" is everywhere in the city.

Swai fish

My family love seafood. We have some type of seafood at least once or twice a week. So yesteraday I decided to try a different fish. We always indulge on talipia or salmon, so I decided to try Swai fish. I have to tell you its a very clean, crisp, sweet, flavor. The texture is very light and flaky. I paired this fish with a shrimp salad and a glass of blackberry wine; delicious!!!

I always use Louisiana seasonings, it just makes it better. I  seasoned my shrimp with salt and blackpepper and an little garlic salt. I sauteed them in butter until they turned pink, and then I served them on a bed of butter lettuce with cucumbers, tomatoes, served with a dash of lemon. Oh and for dessert I served some hot peach cobbler! Hmm-Hmm good.

"Happy Holidays"

I know its been a while since I posted anything. But you know life it throws things out at you. But I'm back!  I will be talking about the holidays. Thanksgiving was beautiful but unfortunately I did not take any pictures. Christmas was wonderful! we opened gifts, and I must say the girls gave beautiful, wonderful gifts. They really put a lot of thought in their gifts. Their father and I were really pleased.
We headed out for dinner with family, it was nice, cozy, and such a warm feeling to be sitting with family and friends on Christmas. I did not get pictures of this day either, but I do have a few pictures of  Christmas decorations around my house. I love to decorate for Christmas, and I also love to make Christmas wreaths. Let me know what you think.

New Year's eve was quiet, but we thanked God for letting us live to see another year. I hope everybody enjoyed their holidays and "Happy New Year"

Stop and smell the roses!!!! (I love my family)

I haven't posted in a while. I've been so busy and tired. Things are always rush, rush! You wake up in the morning and start your day, but there is nothing ordinary about this. First you start your morning with the alarm clock ringing in your ear!!!!!! Ok I hear you! I shut it off for five minutes and then it goes off again.  Boy I hate to get up. Ok I'm rushing out the house because I'm running late, only to face traffic! ughh! I hate traffic, oh and don't even think about taking the side roads, because its traffic there too! So I usually talk to my husband on the phone while I'm sitting in traffic. I enjoy talking to him, but my whole conversation is I'm sleepy! and he listens to me yawning and screaming at the car in front of me!
Ok I have made it through the day; only to face traffic again! ughh! I HATE TRAFFIC! ok, ok, enough about traffic.
My point is life will have you caught up in everyday things, that we sometimes forget to stop and smell the roses! Literally, I love, love, flowers. I would rather have flowers than a card for any occasion. I always buy them and put them every where I can find a empty spot.
I enjoy walking through the door to see my family, they all ways keep me on my feet and make me smile. Hello mother, is what I hear when I walk through the door! If my husband is there when I make it, its ha baby, how was your day?
My family is the one thing that makes me smile at the end of a busy day, then as I look around my house I'm reminded of how blessed we are and then I see flowers, wow they're like a big smile. Ok I'm ready to go to bed and start my day all over again.

Look What Arielle Rocked!!

My girls love fashion.  I like to sit back and watch them create their fashions.
Being from the South, I was raised to always keep your hair, nails, and clothes on point. You never, never stepped out without being presentable. No matter where you were going;(grocery shopping, work, running errands) you stepped out presentable. This was the rule in my household growing up.

We raised our girls the same way. So when they go out; the rules apply. This is what Arielle rocked on her way to work. These pictures were taken about a month ago.

Labor Day

Today was a good day, we slept in a little and then we decided to go and watch a early movie. I know by now you heard about the movie "The Help". This is one powerful movie you just have to go and see. Actually it was my second time seeing this movie. All of the ladies in the movie did a great job. I smell a "Oscar" for Minnie. Any way this movie will have you choked up with sobs and tears. Please take Kleenex with you, you will need them.  It touches your soul and guts like no other movie have.  I encourage everybody to please go see this movie.
I made it home and relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the evening. My back was hurting but took a muscle relaxer and headed for the kitchen and made some delicious stuffed creole mini sweet peppers. I will share the recipe  later. Hope everybody had a good Labor Day and week end.
